Kintsugi of the Earth

Iris Poljan's series of drawings Kintsugi of the Earth addresses the impact of heatwaves and drought issues across Croatia. Focusing on the agricultural crisis that occurred in Slavonia, the artworks show crop failure of corn and sunflowers. Drawn in charcoal, the artworks depict cracked earth and dried up vegetation. Iris stitched up the cracks using thread, drawing inspiration from the Japanese philosophy of repair kintsugi. These hand-sewn mendings carry out an urgent call for human reaction and adapting to the ongoing changes of the climate.
