Recollection (2025)

Recollection is an experimental collage installation piece that invites the public to transform it. Created by the artist as a black-and-white abstract collage from irregularly torn pieces painted with diluted black ink, it visually explores what the process of remembering looks like. Each tone symbolises a different kind of memory; lighter tones represent older memories that fade over time, while newer experiences and memories are darker and more vivid. The aim of this artwork is not to remain in its original form but to be transformed over time. The artist invites visitors to feel free to cut or tear a piece of her collage; the concept of the piece is that it is transformed over time.
This tearing or cutting act symbolises how new experiences—new people —reshape or affect our memories. Each cut piece is used to create a new collage, on a blank piece of paper, which is assembled on-site. Visitors can observe this new piece being re-shaped and re-constructed over time.
This is the first version of the Recollection piece that was created for SchoK 2025 manifestation (Schoorlse Kunsten). The transformation of the Recollection piece was done over a course of three days (June 20th-22nd). The photos document the transformation process.
